Prescription items are dispensed only after a licensed clinician reviews your health questionnaire and medical history. If treatment is not appropriate for you, it is not prescribed and you are not charged for it. Telehealth availability varies by state; you confirm your state when you get started.

Minoxidil, dutasteride and finasteride are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The Hair Foam contains dutasteride and the Pro Spray and Trio Capsule contain finasteride; none are appropriate for anyone who is pregnant or may become pregnant. Tell your clinician in your health questionnaire and they will advise what is safe and when to start.

Why it's happening

Why Your Hair is Thinning, and What's Driving It

The health questionnaire asks about each of these. Finding the cause is the part most women never get, and it changes what your clinician prescribes.

Postpartum

Shedding that starts two to four months after birth, as hormone levels reset. It is far more common than most women realize, and for most it is temporary.

Perimenopause and Menopause

Falling estrogen shortens the growth phase and reduces overall density. This is the most common driver for women over 40.

Stress or Illness

A shock to the system can push follicles into shedding two to three months later. The delay is why it so rarely feels connected to anything.

Thyroid and Iron

Low iron or a thyroid imbalance is a common driver, and a treatable one. Your clinician will tell you what is worth having checked.

Female Pattern Loss

Genetic thinning, which usually shows up first as a widening part rather than a receding hairline.

Autoimmune hair loss such as alopecia areata follows a different clinical pathway and is not treated with these formulations.

The actives

What's in It, and What to Know

Minoxidil

The active with the longest track record in female pattern hair loss. It extends the growth phase of the follicle and improves blood flow to it. On its own, minoxidil is FDA-approved as an over-the-counter topical for women; the NOWmeds formulations combine it with other actives at compounded strengths.

Know before you start: Not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Apply topicals only to intact scalp skin. Scalp irritation is the most common side effect, and minoxidil can cause unwanted hair growth on skin it touches.

Dutasteride and Finasteride

Both reduce DHT, a hormone that shortens the hair growth cycle. The Hair Foam contains dutasteride; the Pro Spray and the Trio Capsule contain finasteride. In women, both are used off-label for hair loss.

Know before you start: Not for anyone pregnant, breastfeeding, or who may become pregnant. Both can cause harm to a male fetus, including through handling or skin contact.

Compounded Formulations

All three products are compounded — prepared to a specific formula at a state-licensed pharmacy rather than manufactured as a finished drug. That is what allows several actives in one application.

Know before you start: Compounded formulations are not FDA-approved as finished products. The Pro Spray also contains tretinoin and azelaic acid, which increase sun sensitivity on the scalp.

Three Steps to a Plan Made for You

  1. 01

Tell Us About Your Hair and Your Health

Complete a short online health questionnaire from the comfort of your home — less than five minutes. It covers pregnancy status, hormones, thyroid, medications and family history.

  2. 02

A Licensed Clinician Looks for the Cause

A licensed clinician reviews your information, identifies the likely cause and creates a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. They decide the formulation and strength, which may differ from the one you selected. If nothing is appropriate, nothing is prescribed and you are not charged.

  3. 03

Your Formulation Ships to Your Door

Approved treatments are compounded at a state-licensed pharmacy and shipped discreetly to your door. Free FedEx Ground, 3–5 business days, unmarked packaging with no product names on the outside.

What the First Six Months Look Like

Month 1–2

Shedding may briefly increase before it slows. This is expected when starting a topical, and it is not a sign that treatment is failing.

Month 3–4

Less hair in the brush. The part usually holds steady before it starts to look fuller.

Month 6+

Density improves where follicles are still active. Progress holds while treatment continues.

Six months is the honest checkpoint. If you are not seeing what you hoped for, message our care team — adjusting your treatment plan is part of the service, not starting over.

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. Treatment maintains results only while it is continued.

From Women on Treatment

Perimenopause did a number on my hair, especially my hairline. I was losing so much hair and honestly it was really starting to bother me and affect my confidence.

I've been using Hair Regrow for about 6 months now, and I'm finally seeing such a difference. My hairline is filling in, I have little new hairs growing, and my hair just looks healthier overall.

It didn't happen overnight, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Seeing my hair come back has made me feel so much better about myself. I won't go back.

Questions Women Ask Most

Yes. Every treatment here is prescription-only. You complete a short online health questionnaire, and a licensed clinician reviews it along with your medical history. If treatment is appropriate, they write the prescription — there is no separate appointment to book.

NOWmeds is a pharmacist-founded telehealth service. Licensed clinicians review every questionnaire, and approved treatments are compounded at a state-licensed pharmacy and shipped directly to you in unmarked packaging.

No. Minoxidil, dutasteride and finasteride are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and finasteride and dutasteride should not be handled by anyone who is pregnant or may become pregnant. Tell your clinician in the questionnaire and they will advise what is safe and when to start.

Often it is more than one thing. Postpartum shifts, perimenopause, thyroid changes, low iron and stress can each drive shedding, and female pattern loss is genetic. The questionnaire asks about all of them so your clinician can identify the likely cause before choosing a treatment.

Not to start. If your answers point to a thyroid or iron issue, your clinician may recommend having it checked with your regular provider, since treating the cause matters as much as treating the hair.

Topical minoxidil is FDA-approved over the counter for women at 2% and 5%. The NOWmeds formulations combine minoxidil with other actives at compounded strengths, and compounded formulations are not FDA-approved as finished products — which is why they require a clinician's prescription.

Topicals most commonly cause scalp irritation, dryness or a brief increase in shedding when you start. Oral finasteride can cause sexual side effects in a small number of people, which usually resolve when treatment stops. Your clinician goes through what to watch for and who to tell before anything is prescribed.

Most people notice less shedding around month three and visible change by month six. Results hold for as long as treatment continues, and six months is the honest checkpoint for deciding whether your plan needs adjusting.

These treatments maintain results only while they are used. If you stop, hair gradually returns to where it would have been without treatment, usually over three to six months.
