Reconnect With Desire. Feel More Like Yourself.

Sometimes desire doesn't feel as effortless as it used to.

Stress, life changes, relationships, hormones, medications, and other factors can all play a role in changes in sexual desire.

What Is PT-141?

PT-141 is the commonly used name for bremelanotide, a melanocortin receptor agonist that has been studied for women experiencing hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

Unlike treatments designed primarily to address vaginal dryness or blood flow, bremelanotide works through pathways in the central nervous system involved in sexual motivation and response. Research suggests that melanocortin signaling may influence brain pathways associated with sexual desire and arousal.

Clinical studies in premenopausal women with HSDD found that bremelanotide improved measures of sexual desire and reduced distress associated with low desire compared with placebo. Read more on HSDD here: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8788464/

It's About More Than a Number

The goal isn't simply to "increase libido."

For the right patient, treatment may help make sexual desire feel more accessible again and reduce the frustration or distress that can come with a persistent change in desire.

Who May Be a Candidate?

PT-141 may be considered for women who experience:

  • Persistent low sexual desire
  • A noticeable change from their previous level of desire
  • Distress or frustration related to the change
  • Symptoms that are not better explained by another medical, medication-related, or relationship-related factor

Your provider will determine whether PT-141 is appropriate for you.

Safety & Important Information

PT-141 can cause side effects and is not appropriate for everyone. Your healthcare provider should review your medical history and current medications before treatment.

Common Side Effects

Clinical trials found the most common adverse effects included:

  • Nausea
  • Flushing
  • Headache
  • Injection-site reactions

Nausea was the most frequently reported side effect in clinical trials.

Blood Pressure & Heart Rate

Bremelanotide can cause a temporary increase in blood pressure and a decrease in heart rate after dosing. Because of this, it may not be appropriate for people with certain cardiovascular conditions or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Tell your provider if you have:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • A history of cardiovascular problems
  • Any condition for which temporary increases in blood pressure may be concerning

Skin Darkening / Hyperpigmentation

Bremelanotide can cause areas of increased skin pigmentation. This may affect the face, gums, or other areas and may become more noticeable with repeated exposure. Clinical safety data found hyperpigmentation was uncommon when used according to studied dosing, but occurred more frequently with repeated consecutive dosing.

Tell your provider if you notice new or worsening skin darkening.

Nausea

Nausea is one of the most common side effects associated with bremelanotide. In clinical studies, approximately 40% of participants reported nausea.

If nausea is severe, persistent, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

Pregnancy

PT-141 should not be used for the treatment of sexual desire during pregnancy.

Tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding before starting treatment.

Medication Interactions

Tell your provider about all medications, supplements, and other treatments you use.

Bremelanotide may affect how certain medications are absorbed and may interact with some medications. Your provider will review your medication list to determine whether PT-141 is appropriate for you.

Your Sexual Wellness, Your Way

Changes in desire are common, but you don't have to simply accept a change that is affecting your confidence, relationship, or quality of life.
